Company role
The site is the head office of a national company which sources, stores, and distributes packaging to customers. 50 people are employed in the site and it is part of an international packaging company called 'Pactiv'
Key skills & competences
  • The Management team is fully qualified for their specialisation. Skills are: Project management, Strategic planning, Finance, Business Studies, Team Management and HR.
  • The Purchasing team requires strong IT and numeric reasoning skills, as well as good communication and report writing skills.
  • The Inventory Control team requires strong planning and IT skills.
  • The Sales admin team requires good communication skills and strong empathetic skills with the customer.
  • The Field Sales team requires self motivation as well as good communication and negotiating skills.

Relate all areas of the business to Key Stage 2. Give an outline of the business and skills required and stress the importance of mathematics & IT skills in all areas and how vital good verbal and written communication is.
How could it be made interesting and appropriate?
  • Interesting Powerpoint multimedia display made in collaboration with schools.
  • Interactive discussions with children and brainstorming sessions
  • Present packaging items and get children to use them and make them up.
Background information
  • Visits to the school are preferred.
  • To get the most out of the sessions, sufficient development time with the teacher is vital in order to make a meaningful presentation which is both interesting and informative.
